Aerospace Composite Design Engineer

Responsibilities

• Develop composite component concepts, CAD models and engineering drawings.
• Translate customer requirements into controlled design definitions.
• Develop preliminary laminate concepts and coordinate laminate-definition activities.
• Design composite panels, shells, stiffened structures, tubes, ducts, fairings and other suitable components.
• Support structural-layout, interface and assembly design.
• Evaluate manufacturability using available composite processes.
• Coordinate with structural analysts to establish required load cases and design margins.
• Support bonding, inserts, attachment interfaces and assembly design where applicable.
• Evaluate design changes and manufacturing feedback.
• Maintain drawing revisions, design records and configuration control.
• Support design reviews, prototype builds and test preparation.
• Ensure design requirements are traceable to verification activities.

Essential qualifications

• Degree in aerospace, mechanical, materials or composite engineering.
• Experience designing mechanical or composite structures.
• Strong CAD and engineering-drawing skills.
• Understanding of composite laminate behaviour and design-for-manufacturing principles.
• Ability to work with structural analysts and manufacturing engineers.
• Experience with engineering change control and technical documentation.

Preferred qualifications

• Aerospace or defence composite design experience.
